Hardwood Floor Refinishing and Installation in Salem, MA

Few communities present the range of flooring that Salem does. Federal era homes near the common, mid century colonials off Highland Avenue, converted condominiums downtown built over concrete, and new construction toward the Willows. Saulnier Floors has worked across all of it, and our Peabody showroom is only minutes away.

Salem Flooring

Entrusted with East India Marine Hall

In 2025, the Peabody Essex Museum selected Saulnier Floors to replace the floor of East India Marine Hall. We supplied and installed 4,500 square feet of 7 inch French sawn, prime grade European oak, finished in our Bay Collection penetrating oil and blended to a custom color so the floor can be re-oiled and restored in place rather than sanded back.

It is the same finish system we installed in a family room in Marblehead the year before. Our work has always been, first and foremost, in New England homes, and the standard does not change with the size of the room.

Hardwood Over Concrete Subfloors

Much of Salem’s downtown housing is converted and multifamily, which means concrete rather than joists and plywood. In a residence on Central Street we removed and disposed of 500 square feet of existing flooring across the living room, kitchen and dining room, applied a liquid vapor barrier directly to the concrete and glued down a prefinished engineered floor. On concrete, engineered flooring is almost always the correct specification, and a vapor barrier is never the place to economize.

Refinishing Older Salem Homes

A 1952 colonial on Marlborough Road required refinishing of the entry room and two stair treads. The original floor carried pet staining that would not sand out, so rather than work against it we applied a Fruitwood stain that absorbed the marks into the overall tone. Choosing the right color is frequently a better answer than pursuing a perfect one.

On Belleau Road we refinished Brazilian cherry, a dense and oily species that behaves very differently from oak under a sander. We finished it in a natural water based system to keep the color true rather than deepening an already rich red.

New Construction, Luxury Vinyl and Laminate

We work with builders throughout Salem on new construction, supplying and installing flooring from the first floor through to custom stair work. We also install luxury vinyl plank and laminate where a project calls for it, including an 1,800 square foot luxury vinyl installation in a new build near Salem Willows.

Industry Standard Dust Containment

Our team uses industry standard dust containment systems on every sanding project, keeping your home comfortable throughout.
